Open Source – Zigbee Vehicle Interface

The ZigVi module is designed to be a small little module that can plug directly into a vehicle OBD vehcile diagnostic port. The idea is to simply plug the module into the OBD port and forget about it!

The main picture on this page shows Proto #2. This second prototype actual fits into a plastic housing that packages up nicely and fits into vehicles very well. On one side of the circuit board is a Jennic Zigbee radio module. The Jennic module is an engineered product from Jennic that meets all the FCC requirements. The Zigbee module in the picture has a small ceramic antenna that seems to work very well even if the module is buried inside an enclosed vehicle. On the other side of the circuit board is a Pic MCP2551 high-speed CAN transceiver. There are also some other support chips on this side of the circuit board. Continue reading »

The solar powered radio is designed to be a Zigbee router. In other words, powered up and running 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The radio uses a five watt solar collector to recharge the Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. A fully charged battery pack can sustain the radio for over three days with zero solar power. However, one good sunny day can recharge the batteries back to 100%. Continue reading »
